After a now four race losing streak the striking son of Malibu Moon has fallen flat, according to fans.
The three year old colt of the Phipps and Janney stable bravely defeated a field of 19 horses with jockey Joel Rosario aboard in the Kentucky Derby. Two weeks later, Orb failed to mount a challenge in the Preakness, finishing fourth in the nine horse field. The same resulted in the Belmont, as he finished a struggling third place finish. As the hopes of the next Triple Crown winner faded, the colt’s fans did the same.
Over recent months, Orb has faced various amounts of negative slurs of becoming ‘overrated’.
“That’s a ridiculous statement,” said jockey agent Ron Anderson. “The horse won the Kentucky Derby and that can never be taken away from him.”
Though not all race fans are against the bay colt.
"I wouldn’t say Orb is overrated now, he just could not live up to the incredible hype after his Kentucky Derby win." said Horse Racing Nation’s Brian Zipse.
With the Breeders' Cup approaching, the hype for Orb may increase. As fans readily anticipate the 1 1/4 mile race, a win for Orb could put the colt back in the lime light, and give him a chance to win the Horse of the Year title.
