Opinion Poll Wins Resheduled Gold Cup

OPINION POLL capped a fine evening for Godolphin after he landed the rescheduled Dubai Gold Cup under Frankie Dettori.

Officials moved the race to the end of the World Cup card following Fox Hunt's fatal injury when the event was first staged earlier in the day.

But the re-run was also marred by death. Bronze Cannon, trained by Herman Brown, pulled-up and had to put down following a leg injury. Grand Vent, owned by Godolphin, was also pulled-up.

AS AN OWNER YOU HAVE THE CHOICE NOT TO RUN YOUR HORSE. I guess Meydan racing officials did not plan for something like this was to happen. They made the mistake of running the race again & it was a costly mistake. Hopefully they will learn this & it will never happen again.
Wouldn't bother me one bit if no American based horse ever went over there again. World Cup Day is overrated anyway.
I agree. That race should of never been rerun. When I first heard they were going to rerun it, I was appalled. And even more so after the results. Three horses injured in total, two of them put down. Not to mention the other two horses that were also eased at the end probably due to exhaustion.
Never should that race have been allowed to be rerun- esp on same day. The purse should have been equally split and shared by all runners, including Fox Hunt. TWO more injured- 1 fatally on the rerun? SHAME ON YOU WHO MADE THIS DECISION- you are a blight on the industry.
Bitter ending to a otherwise good day.
Never should have run again, the horses were most likely too tired and likely stressed to be run again so soon.
This race seemed doomed from the beginning...
