Oaklawn: Races Cancelled

Oaklawn Park has canceled the balance of its Southwest Stakes card after running four races on the Monday program. Track officials announced freezing temperatures and wind chill levels as factors making the conditions unsafe for riders and horses. It is about 33 degrees and dropping in Hot Springs....

Southwest has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20, the same day as the Risen Star and Fountain of Youth. "The track was starting to ice up," track announcer Terry Wallace said. (The ice) was balling up; it was flying back and hitting the jockeys. A couple had broken goggles.''
