Noosa Beach and trainer Doris Harwood have dispelled any doubts that they are serious about becoming repeat winners in the Longacres Mile.
The campaign for the premiere stakes at Emerald Downs started Sunday with the $50,000 Governor's Handicap, and Noosa Beach went four-wide out of the pack at the half-mile post, took the lead from speedster Bogachiel and held off Assessment to win by a length. Noosa Beach covered the 6 ½-furlong race in 1 minute, 14.27 seconds.
