New Year's Day Rings In the Breeders' Cup Juvenile

In a late, rail-skimming run, New Year's Day took the Breeders' Cup Juvenile over Havana and Strong Mandate for trainer Bob Baffert and Gary and Mary West. Martin Garcia was in the irons for the $23.00 win payout.

New Year's Day stalked a swift pace set by Strong Mandate, Rum Point and Conquest Titan and made his winning move just as it seemed Todd Pletcher's Havana was going to run away with the race.

New Year's Day is a son of Street Cry (IRE) and out of multiple graded stakes winner Justwhistledixie. If was his first race on dirt and third lifetime start.
