Robert Orth and Wesley Hawley’s Nana
Knows pressed the pace, found running room along the rail in the stretch to
gain the advantage and withstood the late bid of Candy Delicious to win
Sunday’s $41,000 feature for accredited 3-year-old maiden fillies by a length
and a quarter.
Trained by Wes Hawley and ridden
by Miguel Mena, Nana Knows paid mutuels of $31.40, $10.80 and $6.40,
toured the mile and 40-yard distance in 1:43.52 and earned $24,600 with her
first victory in two career starts.
Candy Delicious, void of early speed,
rallied to be easily second best, returning $3.40 and $2.80 while finishing 4
1/4-lengths to the good of Ocean Club, who paid $5.40.
Hey My Baby set early fractions
of 24.67 and 48.95 before giving way in the drive.
Racing resumes Monday at Fair Grounds
with a 10-race program beginning at 1:10 p.m.
