Monmouth Park Barn Notes - June 21

On June 2, 2012 trainer Yvon Belsoeur and owner Bruno Schickedanz dropped a slip on My Place Anytime before a $5,000 claiming event where their new horse trounced the field, winning by nine lengths for the second win of her career. Since that day My Place Anytime has won five out of eight races for Belsoeur, good for earnings of $82,834, bolstering her career earnings to $137,711. A 5-year-old mare by Don Six, My Place Anytime’s next start will be in the $60,000 Blue Sparkler on Saturday.

When asked about the secret to his horse’s new found success Belsoeur said, “It’s because I have the best rider ever. Being a former jockey that’s what it’s about, jockeys day and night.”

Elvis Trujillo, who is currently the leading jockey at Monmouth Park, has ridden My Place Anytime in all of her wins since the claim, but Abel Mariano will be aboard in the Blue Sparkler as Trujillo rides Geeky Gorgeous for trainer Danny Lopez.

Although My Place Anytime broke well in her last race, getting out on the pace and winning in a gate to wire effort, Belsoeur is keeping his hand close to the vest as far as tactics go for Saturday’s six furlong event.

“The pace, well that is our strategy,” Belsoeur said with a smile, “you’ll have to wait and see.”

The Blue Sparkler will go as the 11th race on a 12 race card on Saturday.

Coarsegold, a 3-year-old filly conditioned by Mark Hennig, is slated to run in the Revidere Stakes for fillies and mares on Sunday. She will stay on the turf as she stretches back out to a mile and a sixteenth after finishing fourth in a six furlong stakes event at Belmont (May 19), and second by ¾ of a length going a mile at Belmont in the race before (March 13).

“She ran really well at a mile,” said Rob Raider, Hennig’s Monmouth Park assistant. “She was learning how to rate and then we ran her in the sprint, but she didn’t like having to give 100% for six furlongs. She likes going long, so we put her back in a race with two turns.”

Thirteen-time leading Monmouth jockey Joe Bravo will be aboard Coarsegold Sunday and Raider says he feels very confident leaving the pace in his hands.

“We usually don’t say much when Joe’s on,” Raider said. “He rode her a few times so he knows her. We can leave it to him since he always gets a run out of her. We know we have the best aboard whenever he’s on.”

Coarsegold will be breaking from the fourth post as she tries to capture the winner’s share of the Revidere’s $60,000 purse on Sunday.

Oceanport, N.J. -- Television star and entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel is visiting the Monmouth Park Racetrack on Saturday, June 22, for an appearance and live Skinnygirl® Cocktails demonstration.  Frankel, who founded Skinnygirl® Cocktails – which now offers a full line of low-calorie vodkas, wines and cocktails – will make her first Monmouth Park appearance on-track at 1:00pm.

“I am thrilled to visit Monmouth Park and help kick-off the exciting partnership with Skinnygirl Cocktails,” Frankel said. “We’ve brought in an exciting line-up of our newest products to the track, so I’m looking forward to toasting the winners and enjoying a great day at the races.”

Frankel’s day will commence with a private V.I.P event in the Monmouth Café, followed by a cocktail demonstration on the first floor of the Grandstand.  She will then present a trophy in the winner’s circle.

“Bethenny,” Frankel’s new talk show, is slated to premier Sept. 9, 2013 on FOX.

Guests will be pouring into Monmouth Park Saturday and Sunday for Win and Wine weekend where they will be able to sample and purchase delicious wines as they enjoy a day at the races. For $10 patrons will receive a souvenir glass and access to unlimited wine sampling from vintners such as Cava Winery, Old York Cellars, Unionville Vineyards and Renault Winery, among others.

Patrons will also be able to enjoy goods from artisan crafters, and live music from The Larry Stevens Band on Saturday, and The Kootz on Sunday.

Gates open at 11:30 a.m., with post time at 12:50 p.m. for both days.
