Saturday’s Monmouth Oaks has drawn a full field of 11
fillies for the mile and a sixteenth event, including Canadian Mistress from
the Larry Jones barn. Jones, as trainer,
captured the 2008 Oaks with Maren’s Meadow and returned in 2009 to take the
event with Just Jenda. Last year it was
another Jones, Cindy (wife of the trainer), who conditioned the winner No Such
Word, as her husband enjoyed a hiatus from the training ranks.
First run in 1871, the Monmouth Oaks is the oldest Oaks in
the nation. With a $150,000 purse on the
line, the Monmouth Oaks will be run as the 10th race on a 12-race
