Mine That Bird works out at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland on Black-Eyed Susan Day. Mine That Bird, the 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. What the Nation is saying about Mine That Bird Sharp in Churchill Move...

Horse racing is a busniess and Elmer and Bugs, the owner and trainer of Mine that Bird, present little opportunity for Borel in the future. But Ahh!!!!! Jess Jackson, lots. Its as simeple as that. speed ratings, beyers are all trash items. Ali beat them all just looking into their eyes, so do animals.
His running STYLE is against him. That style gets beat often by moving too late. One of the reasons Zenyatta is so remarkable is that SHE keeps winning that way and this one doesn't.
Mine That Bird, IMO, is a gelding that is loaded with heart. It's just that his talent doesn't quite rate as highly as his heart does. Frankly, if the 2009 Kentucky Derby had been raced over a dry track instead of an off-track, as it was again in 2010, likely as not, Mine That Bird would be just a minor foot note in racing history. Because if he was so good, why did Calvin Borel, without a seconds thought, give up the mount on Mine That Bird for the Preakness in favor of Rachel Alexandra. Even if you suspected that Rachel Alexandra was a better horse. But still felt that Mine That Bird was a legitimate Triple Crown contender. Why would you not stick with the horse that had already gotten you 1/3 of the way home?
Just long enough for the juice to work huh Darryl?
He's no Secretariat, but he was a big story last year.
