Midnight Music Headlines Final Night Card at BHP

Midnight Music, who finished third in her United States debut May 18 at Churchill Downs, will shorten up a bit in the $70,000 Lucie Manet Stakes Friday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

A 1 ¼ mile turf race for older fillies and mares, the Lucie Manet is the seventh of eight races on the final night program at Betfair Hollywood Park. Post time is 7:05 p.m.

Immediately after the conclusion of the races – approximately 10:30 p.m. – a concert featuring 80z All Stars will begin. Beer will be offered for $1 between 7 and 9 p.m.

Owned by Gary Chervenell and trained by Tom Proctor, Midnight Music was third, defeated by 1 ½ lengths by Treasured Up in the $62,000 Keertana traveling 1 3/8 miles in Kentucky.

The performance for the 5-year-old mare came after she had won four of 13 in her native land. An Irish-bred daughter of Dubawi and the Green Desert mare Midnight Mist, Midnight Music has earned $120,767.

Proctor also entered Customer Base, who has hit the board in two stakes appearances at the Spring/Summer meet.

The 4-year-old daughter of Lemon Drop Kid and the Tale of the Cat mare Little Cat Feet was third in the Great Lady M. at six furlongs May 26 before finishing second in the Redondo Beach at one mile June 9.

Owned by Glen Hill Farm, Customer Base has won three of 12 and earned $162,222.

Caelis will make her first start since finishing third in the Grade II Santa Barbara Handicap April 20 at Santa Anita.

Trained by Peter Miller for Brous Stable and Wachtel Stable, the 5-year-old daughter of Avonbridge and the Lyphard mare Shona has won five of 21 and earned $173,858.

The English bred will be making her initial start over the Betfair Hollywood Park grass. She was third behind Include Me Out and Ellafitz in the Grade II Marjorie L. Everett Handicap over Cushion Track May 19, 2012.

Miss Pippa will bid for her second win of the meet for Joy Ride Racing and trainer John Sadler.

The 4-year-old gray daughter of Master Command and the Dumaani mare Scootin’ Girl won an optional claimer by 2 ¾ lengths at the Lucie Manet distance June 6.  Miss Pippa is 2-for-7 with a bankroll of $104,600.

A 5-year-old daughter of Castledale and the Dom Alaric mare Emily’s Charm, Little Emily has yet to hit the board in four outings this year, including a last-place finish in the Redondo Beach.

Trained by Robert Leonard for owner Penley Leonard, Little Emily has won four of 16 and earned $119,566.

Madera Castana enters having lost 26 races in a row. The 6-year-old Indy Dancer mare hasn’t won since capturing the Group I Alberto Solasco Magnasco in her native Chile Nov. 6, 2010.

All but two of her defeats during the streak have come in the United States. Trained by Angel Rodriguez for Green Grass Stable, Madera Castana, who is out of the Dancing Groom mare Madera Fragante, is 2-for-35 lifetime with a bankroll of $146,638.

The Friday night feature is named in honor of Lucie Manet, a multiple stakes winning daughter of Minera II. Owned by John and Don Valpredo and trained by Jaime Villagomez, the Argentine bred’s Hollywood Park victories included the Wilshire Handicap and the first division of the Gamely Handicap in 1978.

From inside out, the field for the Lucie Manet Stakes: Miss Pippa, Joe Talamo rides, 116 pounds; Caelis, Rafael Bejarano, 116; Madera Castana, Omar Figueroa, 114; Midnight Music, Julien Leparoux, 114; Customer Base, Mike Smith, 114 and Little Emily, Kayla Stra, 114.
