Metee replaces Motion as Team Valor trainer

g motion

In a press release posted today on their website, Team Valor has announced the change in stable trainers from Graham Motion to Rick Metee.

Mettee, a former Godolphin trainer, has also trained horses for Team Valor President and CEO Barry Irwin in the past. He will begin training for the stable on May 1, and will be based at the Fair Hill training center in Maryland.

"Rick has experience training horses on synthetic and dirt surfaces in America and in Dubai," said Irwin. "He did exceptional work while winning several Grade 1 races with the Godolphin runners. We are looking forward to renewing our relationship with him."

Kentucky Derby winning trainer, Graham Motion has been with Team Valor since 2010 and saddled Animal Kingdom to victories in the Derby and the recent Dubai World Cup. He will continue to train the champion for the remainder of his career for Team Valor and Arrowfield Stud, including  a possible start at Royal Ascot this summer.

"Graham Motion trained Team Valor's horses privately from our barn at Fair Hill Training Center as an accommodation to us. But he made it clear that he would continue to train for other owners," said Irwin. "We understood this and accepted his conditions. However, due to the unique type of operation we run with partnership-owned horses, we feel at this time it would serve our needs better to have one trainer that was exclusive to our stable. Graham agrees. He has offered to continue to train our horses through the month of April until our new trainer has set up his operation."

Forego's comment was absurd. Motion is a very classy man and a very good trainer. I dislike Barry Irwin to be honest.
CFC, that is exactly how I feel about Motion. Very classy man who is not only modest, but skilled and not just lucky.
Thanks, cocoa. I thought I'd add that my time machine's a tad off, for it was 2011. Funny how time flies.
BIG LIKE to CFC
In 2010, I really felt sorry for this guy. To lose a proverbial favorite in Wood Memorial winner, Toby's Corner. Then, your interest had to side with Animal Kingdom, since he was only the winner of the Spiral Stakes. To change jockeys a day and a half before the race. To give replaced rider Robby Albarado a piece of the pie, even though he was no longer affiliiated with riding the colt. To carry yourself in a very dignified manner through all this, and to recently win the Dubai race. I'd say, Graham Motion, thanks for being a great ambassador.
Motion is a classy trainer, i think team valor will falter now.
I thought forego139 was being facetious; now I'm not sure.
Graham has always seemed humble as pie to me, not sure what makes you say that, forego139.
Trainers are business men/women and if you plan to expand you're barn and have control of your business then severing partnerships is a good move. I wish Graham the best and contiued success here in the US.
REALLY?????? Amazing!
Thats what happens when a trainer gets too big for himself. Good move in replacing Motion before his head gets any bigger than it already is. Don't need and out of control trainer running your stable.
Wow! But who's to question Barry? He's made one right decision after another.
