Meet the Latest DerbyWars $10,000 Saturday Game winner

DerbyWars $10,000 Saturday Game
Terri Bagley from Newton, North Carolina was the winner of DerbyWars $10,000 Saturday Game. Despite starting off a bit slow after missing the first two races, "ctbagley" came out with a late-closing style hitting four of the last six races in the tournament, the last two being her biggest wins in the competition. Top Fortitude earned Bagley $49.80 when he won the Lazaro Barerra Stakes at Santa Anita, she then completed the Santa Anita double with Yes She's Unusual in the eighth race, who paid $22.80. Bagley came out with $113.60 in earnings, $13.90 ahead of Glendale, California resident Barbara Bowley or "Sophia" who collected $99.70 to complete the "filly exacta". New Braunfels,Texas resident Jason Hill, otherwise known as "humanzee" was not too far behind the runner-up with $93.50.

Bagley comes from a non-horseracing background, but became a fan of the sport at the age of  twelve when she watched Secretariat win the Triple Crown.

"No one else in my family watched the races, but I was your typical horse crazy young girl," she says.

Being a handicapper for 15 years now, Bagley believes that "feast or famine" is the rule in racing, and credits Derby Wars for teaching her how to take some risks when it comes to picking winners.

"I have learned that with DerbyWars that you have to take some risks in several of the contest races, but pick the favorite if you really believe they are unbeatable."

Living in North Carolina, Bagley is unable to wager on racing as parimutuel wagering is illegal in the Tar Heel State. However Derby Wars, she says, gives her the opportunity to "put her handicapping skills to the test".  She puts those skills to work with Brisnet's PP's, but also states that she does some extensive homework of her own.

"I have done some extensive reading about pedigrees, keep up with trainer stats, have owned horses and lean red about their behaviors, and have my own quirky tricks to find long shots." she says.
