Makfi Is Favourite For QE II Stakes At Ascot

Canford Cliffs IRE (Tagula IRE) was favourite with UK punters for Saturday's Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot until he scoped poorly Wednesday after an excellent gallops' session.

This is a double blow to his trainer Richard Hannon who is competing with Sir Michael Stoute for top-earning trainer honours in 2010 with every pound counting towards victory.

Hannon and the British handicapper believe his three-year old is the the best miler in Europe despite Makfi (Dubawi IRE) beating him in the 2000 Guineas and the stellar record of Ballydoyle's four-year-old Rip Van Winkle IRE (Galileo IRE) as last year's leading male miler.

Mikel Delzangles, who continues as Makfi's trainer for the horse's new owners - the Al-Thani ruling family of Qatar, looked forward to besting CC again and now finds his horse betting favourite over his half brother Poet's Voice and Rip.
