Growing up around a father who trained horses, Mike Maker always has been fascinated by the Kentucky Derby.
His interest was piqued at the age of 9 after reading Pete Axthelm's
“The Kid” — the story of jockey Steve Cauthen and his Triple Crown
victory aboard Affirmed in 1978.
“That truly intrigued me at a young age,” Maker said.
