Successful in her sprint comeback May 11 at Santa Anita, Maker Or Breaker
will stretch out in the $75,000 Cypress Stakes Sunday at Los Alamitos.
Scheduled at 1 1/16 miles for older fillies and mares, the Cypress is the eighth of nine races as the first week of the Summer Thoroughbred Festival concludes. Post time is 2 p.m.
Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert for owner-breeders Patti and Hal Earnhardt III, Maker Or Breaker had been away for more than eight months when prevailing by 1 ¾ lengths as the 13-10 favorite in a $67,850 six-furlong allowance at Santa Anita.
A 5-year-old daughter of Empire Maker and the Flying Chevron mare Shameful, Maker Or Breaker has won four of nine and earned $174,960. She has won two of three routes on dirt with both victories occurring in 2012.
No worse than second in four starts since joining the barn of Carla Gaines, Onna Bugeisha
will be seeking her third win of the year.
Owned by Robert and Betty Irvin, the 4-year-old First Samurai filly out of the Nureyev mare Soiree Russe won an optional claimer by 2 ¾ lengths after a pace-pressing trip May 24.
She’s won two of 10 and banked $103,145. Onna Bugeisha was winless in six starts at Golden Gate Fields before arriving in Southern California.Miss Radiance
returns to the distance of her two most recent victories for sports television and radio personality Jim Rome ‘s Jungle Racing LLC and trainer Mike Puype.
The 6-year-old Yes It’s True mare, who was fifth sprinting May 30 at Santa Anita, won at 8 ½ furlongs Jan. 26, 2012 at Santa Anita and June 30, 2013 over the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park.
Out of the War Chant mare Radiant Glow, Miss Radiance is 3-for-16 with earnings of $160,770.Legacy
will make her first start since finishing sixth in the Grade III Adoration May 18.
Owned by breeders John Jain, Lawrence Opas and Frank Sinatra and trained by John Sadler, the 4-year-old Sightseeing filly has won twice in 11 starts. Out of the Smart Strike mare Royal Flush, Legacy has banked $104,070.
Third in the Adoration, Irish Presence
will be aiming for her first dirt win for Michael Lofino, Sr. and Anthony Zankich.
A 4-year-old Midnight Lute filly and the Deputy Minister mare Proper Form, Irish Presence has two wins in 19 outings and earnings of $90,223. She’s trained by Danny Velasquez.
