09 December 19: Lookin at Lucky (no. 1), ridden by Garrett Gomez and trained by Bob Baffert, wins the 29th running of the grade 1 CashCall Futurity Stakes for two year olds at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California. The first of three pools in the 2010 Kentucky Derby Future Wager opens Friday at noon Eastern with a couple of new wrinkles to what has become a familiar tradition on the road to the Derby.

Churchill Downs, which first offered parimutuel futures in 1999, has shortened each of its three annual pools from four days of action to three. In addition, exacta wagering will be offered with every pool; the introduction of exactas came last year with Pool 2.

Each of the three 2010 pools will run from a Friday to Sunday, with Thursdays having been eliminated. Pool 2 is set for March 5-7 and Pool 3 for March 26-28. One Kentucky Oaks futures pool will be offered to coincide with Derby Pool 2, although there will be no exacta futures on the Oaks.

What the Nation is saying about 'Lucky' Tops Derby Future Pool 1 ...

Eskendereya is bred to run all day. Big chance and will be overlaid because of the timing of the wager to the FOY, provided, of course, he runs well in the FOY.
Very tough this early, but that's what makes it fun. Bluelou - I think Drosselmeyer and Eskendereya both can be big players in the TC this year. Just so everyone has an idea what these exactas pay... Drosselmeyer-Eskendereya = $812 and Eskendereya-Drosselmeyer = $866. Not too shabby. But that's a mouthful. Say those two names 10 times fans...
So tough to pick this early in the game....heck, its tough to pick a week before the Derby! Something tells me its finally going to happen for Pletcher, so I'll take Eskendereya...and box Drosslemeyer in the futures exacta because they sound good together. But I tabbed Buddys Saint as my pick 2 months ago so there will be a wager on him for sure.
That's cool. I know some people don't like Future Wagers, but I think the exacts are pretty cool. What people don't realize is that with 24 betting options, there are a ton of possibilities. 552 exacta combinations to be exact. That leads to some very big prices. I would say that as long as you avoid "Lucky", the exacta will pay huge. For example, a Buddy-Maximus exacta should pay at least $1,500... if you like those guys thats a great play.
thinkin about boxin a dublin, lookin at lucky, max ruler, buddy's saint, all other 3yo exacta box.. if they alow such a wager
