Trainer Pat McBurney will send Lucky Rag Doll into Friday’s feature race, a $42,000 allowance optional claiming event set for a mile along Monmouth’s turf course.

In her last two races the versatile filly posted a second place finish in a six furlong optional claiming race on May 17, and a strong fourth place finish in a mile long optional claiming event at Monmouth on June 14. Since then she has worked once, breezing four furlongs at Monmouth in :49 3/5 on July 4.

“She’s been training really great,” said McBurney. “We’ll see how she’ll handle the turf on Friday.”

A 4-year-old filly by Silver Train out of Here Comes Chelsie, Lucky Rag Doll has finished in the money in six of seven races along Monmouth’s main track, including a third place finish in last year’s Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks. This Friday she will try grass for the first time, and McBurney says that this race is just a stepping stone for a bigger one in the future.

“In the back of our mind we need her to run big,” McBurney said. “We need her to prove herself to be Molly Pitcher worthy.”

Running in the colors of BDL Stable, Donnely, and Phantom House, Lucky Rag Doll will break from post-3 in Friday’s feature with jockey Angel Serpa aboard in Friday’s feature race, which will go as race 9 on the 10-race card.
