Four turf stars trained by H. Graham Motion were flown back
from California to his training center in Maryland Sunday morning but Motion plans to send another
before the Hollywood
Park meet ends next
month.
Motion indicated that he would ship Lucky Chappy west for
the $750,000 CashCall Futurity, a Grade I test for 2-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles
on Cushion Track, on December 17.
Lucky Chappy, an Irish-bred colt owned by Team Valor
International, finished a closing fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf
under Joel Rosario in his last start November 5 at Churchill Downs.
By High Chapparal, Lucky Chappy won two of three starts in
Italy this summer before joining the Motion stable and finishing third in the
Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland on October 9.
Owner Arnold Zetcher, whose unbeaten So Brilliant won the
$100,000 Hollywood Prevue Stakes Thanksgiving Day, said the colt would join
Liaison, winner of the $100,000 Real Quiet Stakes, in the Futurity.
Both Zetcher-owned colts are trained by Hall of Famer Bob
Baffert, who is also considering Secret Circle and Sky Kingdom for the
Futurity. Baffert has won the Futurity a record five times.
“I’m planning to bring Secret Circle over next week and work
him,” said Baffert of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint winner, based at Santa
Anita. Sky Kingdom was an impressive winner of a
maiden race at 1 1/16 miles here Thursday.
