Livi Makenzie Kicks Clear in Churchill Feature

B J D Thoroughbreds LLC’s Livi Makenzie took the lead early, entered the stretch with a one-length lead and then kicked clear to win the $55,725 feature for fillies and mares by two lengths over Devious Intent on Thursday afternoon at Churchill Downs. 
 
Trained by Ron Moquett and ridden by Ricardo Santana Jr., Livi Makenzie covered the six furlongs on the muddy main track in 1:09.73 in her fourth start over the Churchill Downs oval. On Kentucky Oaks Day in 2012, she finished fourth behind Contested in the Eight Belles (Grade III).
 
A Kentucky-bred daughter of Macho Uno, Livi Makenzie improved her record to 4-5-3 from 16 starts and boosted her earnings to $212,109 with Thursday’s check of $34,200.
 
Livi Makenzie returned $8.20, $4 and $2.40. Devious Intent, under Corey Lanerie, returned $7 and $3 with 4-5 favorite Same Cross finishing another two-lengths back under Rosie Napravnik and returning $2.20 to show.
