Julien Leparoux easily captured his fifth Keeneland riding title as the
17-day fall meet ended Saturday. He won with 27 of his 127 starters,
posting earnings of $1,474,601. Robby Albarado was second with 19
winners, and John Velazquez third with 11.
Leparoux, a 27-year-old native of France, tied with Rafael Bejarano
in the 2006 spring meet while an apprentice, then won the fall title as
a journeyman the same year. He also captured the spring title in 2009
and 2007.
Leparoux
has won the Eclipse Award twice, as leading apprentice in 2006 and
leading jockey in 2009. He won three Breeders' Cup races in 2009, and
ended the year just $11,000 short of being the top money-earner as
well. He's listed on 12 horses for next weekend's Breeders' Cup.
