Another high-profile name on the Saturday morning work tab
at Palm Meadows was Lael Stable’s Kentucky
homebred Lentenor, a full-brother to ill-fated Barbaro. Lentenor was timed an
easy half-mile in 49 3/5 for trainer Michael Matz.
Lentenor drew post one in a maiden special weight test
Wednesday going 1 1/16 miles on turf at Gulfstream
Park
with jockey Jose Lezcano named to ride. The son of Dynaformer out of La Ville
Rouge will be making his third career start after finishing third in his debut
on Oct. 31 at Keeneland and second by a half-length last out over the Aqueduct
turf course on Nov. 28.
Whereas Jackson Bend has earned recognition as a leading
2-year-old last year and potential Kentucky Derby (G1) and Triple Crown
hopeful, Lentenor was a familiar name to many racing fans well before he ever
started as Barbaro’s sibling Barbaro captured the 2006 Holy Bull Stakes and
Florida Derby (G1) prior to continuing undefeated through the Kentucky Derby
(G1) that spring.
