Keeneland boosted the purses of two Breeders’ Cup prep races that are
part of its Oct. 7-9 FallStars Weekend, it announced Sept. 16.
Purses for the Woodford Stakes and Bourbon Stakes—both grade III races—will be increased to $150,000 from $100,000.
The Woodford Stakes, run on Saturday,
Oct. 8, is for 3-year-olds and up going 5 1/2 furlongs over the turf. It
serves as a prep race for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IIT). In
2010, Chamberlain Bridge prepped in the Woodford Stakes before going on
to win the Turf Sprint.
