Owned and trained by Wesley Ward, Judy the Beauty sat off the early
pace set by Gypsy Robin and just behind Groupie Doll in the TCA. Leaving
the far turn, Groupie Doll moved three wide at Gypsy Robin and Livi
Makenzie with Judy the Beauty right on her flank.
Judy the Beauty, ridden by John Velazquez, claimed a narrow lead at
the eighth pole and outdueled Gypsy Robin and Groupie Doll to the wire,
finishing the six furlongs in 1:09.23.
It was the second TCA victory as a trainer for Ward, who won the 2011 renewal with Holiday for Kitten.
A 2010 Keeneland September Sales graduate, Judy the Beauty is a
4-year-old Canadian-bred daughter of Ghostzapper out of the Holy Bull
mare Holy Blitz. The victory was worth $120,000 and increased Judy the
Beauty’s earnings to $585,757 with a record of 12-5-6-1. It was her
first graded stakes victory.
Judy the Beauty returned $8.40, $4.40 and $2.10. Gypsy Robin, ridden
by Garrett Gomez, returned $4.80 and $2.20 with Groupie Doll finishing
three-quarters of a length back in third and paying $2.10 to show under
Purely Hot finished 2¾ lengths back in fourth and was followed in order by Tanglewood Tale and Livi Makenzie.
