Don Zimmer decided to sneak out to the racetrack one day in 1996 and asked Joe Torre
if he wanted to come along. Torre could not get away, but he gave his
longtime friend a few hundred dollars and asked Zimmer to invest it for
him at the betting windows at Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course. Zimmer
must have had one of those days at the track where every horse he
