Veteran jockey Willie Martinez, 40, was injured in a spill while
riding Bippity Bop in the third race at Presque Isle Downs on Friday
night.
According to his agent, Doug Davis, Martinez had a punctured lung and
several broken ribs after the mishap that happened after Bippity Bop
finished third.
"They kept him overnight for observation, because of the puncture,"
Davis said Saturday by phone from the rider's bedside at UPMC Hamot.
"But he's talking and will be walking away from this, probably today. He
can sit up and move his head, his hands and his legs."
