Jockey Serpa Unseated at Monmouth Park

Jockey Angel Serpa was sent to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, N.J. after being unseated by his mount Kisses Required during the running of Monmouth Park’s fifth race on Friday.

“He needed further evaluation for a head injury,” said Dr. Angelo Chinnici.  “I should have more information after the head trauma doctors at Jersey Shore perform an MRI and have an opportunity to perform more tests.”

Kisses Required, a 3-year-old filly by Pavarotti, led through most of the mile and a sixteenth turf race for maiden claimers.

Nearing the 1/16th pole, Kisses Required attempted to jump the portable rail, unseating Serpa.  The Jane Cibelli-trained Kisses Required was vanned off the track for further veterinary evaluation.

A 24-year-old native of Puerto Rico, Serpa was fifth in the Monmouth Park standings going into Friday’s card.  From 159 mounts, he has piloted 17 winners.
