Jockey Eddie Razo Jr. dies in explosion

Jockey Eusebio "Eddie" Razo Jr., 46, died Tuesday morning in an explosion at his home in Long Grove, Ill.

Razo’s former longtime agent and friend, Lindy McDaniel, confirmed news of his death Tuesday afternoon. McDaniel, who now books mounts for jockey Jesse Campbell at Woodbine in Canada, said he had earlier in the day spoken with Razo’s wife, Doreen, who had given him only sparse details concerning Razo’s death.

The Pioneer Local, a suburban publication of the Chicago Sun-Times, reported the explosion without naming Razo as the deceased mid-afternoon Tuesday. Calls to the Lake County sheriff’s and coroner’s office Tuesday were not returned. The published news report said fire and police departments were investigating the explosion, the cause of which was not immediately determined.
