Charles Fipke’s Jersey Town
was caught by NYRA clockers breezing six furlongs in 1:11.15 Sunday morning as
the 5-year-old tuned up for his match against Uncle Mo and Jackson Bend in next
Saturday’s Kelso.
Trainer Barclay Tagg said the work was faster than he expected but was
otherwise pleased with the drill.
“It was very good,” said Tagg. “He went a little
faster than I wanted to, but he went easily and the track was a little fast. I was
looking to have him go in a minute and gallop out in 1:12, which would have
been perfect.”
The Kelso will be the third start of 2011 for last year’s Grade 1
Cigar Mile Handicap winner Jersey Town, who was second in both the Teddy Drone on July
31 at Monmouth Park
and the Grade 1 Forego on September 3 at Saratoga.
