Iotapa Opens Up in Vanity

Iotapa wins 2014 Santa Maria
In Saturday's Vanity at Santa Anita Park, Iotapa wired the field from the inside post under Joe Talamo. She covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:47.64 and paid $11.20, $5 and $3.20.  The winning margin of 10 ¼ lengths is believed to be a stakes record, according to Equibase.

"We had a perfect trip," Talamo said. "The fractions weren't too fast for her so she was able to gain a breather at one point and it was amazing the way she kicked away like she did."

Grace Hall returned $3.80 and $2.80 for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, while Scherzinger paid $3.40 to show.

Let Faith Arise, the 8-5 favorite and a double stakes winner this year, was fourth, followed by Magic Union and Yahilwa.
