I'll Have Another Wins the 2012 Kentucky Derby!

I'll Have Another KY Derby
I'll Have Another ridden by Mario Gutierrez wins the 2012 Kentucky Derby!

I'll Have Another was courageous in the packed field of 20 through the 1 1/4 miles of America's most famous race. It was trainer Doug O'Neill's first win in the Derby.

Bodemeister was second, with Dullahan third. Final time was 2:01.83.

More to come!

What the Nation is saying about I'll Have Another Wins the 2012 Kentucky Derby!...

Well its like this I took I'll Have Another in tri with all and all 3 times cost me 2000 dollars was wanting a 30,40,or 50-1 shot to hit with him that would be a nice fat tri.Well the tri did pay 3000 and I got back 9000,but if I would had bet that 2000 grand on IHA to win I would now have 30 grand but Iam happy he won.
Yes! For all of the I'll Have Another supporters! The best day at the track in my life and still pumped from it. Cold exacta yesterday, future bets to win and exacta, late double,Oaks/Derby and Oaks/Woodford/Derby pick three all hit. Ironic the last Santa Anita/ Kentucky Derby winner was my love Sunday Silence! I have a new equine buddy....I'll Have Another!
Watch more derbies, Mine That Bird will always have a place in my heart. This one was a disapointment, mostly because they took Durkin from me.
This was the most excting derby i've seen. This is my first derby ever watched, and everybody thought that bodemister was going to win because he had a long lead headin into to the finsh mark until i'll have another broke thourgh and won it, but you gotta give props to bodemesiter who was leading the race for most of it. If that race happened again, I bet you bodemister would've won it, but that what makes the derby so special, you only have ONE shot to win it, and if you don't, you don't. But this derby I will never forget.
West coast triple crown.
cali horse were 3 of the top 5 finishers
Gotta hand it to the California bunch. Far superior
Hurrray Mario, you put little Hastings Park on the map yesterday!
Props to all you handicappers who had I'll Have Another! My Dullahan & Went the Day Well closed well to get 3rd & 4th so it was a great race to watch. Alas, as an old shaman from Nepal once told me, "some days you make a nickel . . . some days you lose a nickel". Get out those race replays and it's on to the Preakness!
I thought Bodemeister was going to make it. Shame he didn't. Anyway, that was a nice run by both him and I'll Have Another.
There were 5 Ca based horses in the Derby. The worst finish for any of them was Rousing Sermon who finished 8th. Of the top 8 horses, only 3 weren't Ca horses.
add a 6th place finish for the disrepected Cali runners.
Florida deby finished 7th, 14th and 19th... Terrible..
I guess it was all about the west coast runners, 1st, 2nd, 5th. Everyone should have given them more respect.
He had the perfect trip
it's not silly....kedez2012.....with that post position???????
I'No genius here but ll Have Another had one of the fastest derby preps of all the horses. We almost dumped him for Went the Day Well because of his post position and rookie driver. Got to hand it to my betting partner for sticking to his pick.
A quote by me on May 2nd "I've been high on I'll Have Another for a while but was scared off by that post draw. Is that silly?" Guess who feels very, very ridiculous right now...
OK, so let's recap. Pluses; All of the horses made it home safe (Minus Take charge Indy and Daddy Long Legs pulling up, I will follow up on that), That's about it. Minuses, The Track: How is it possible that since Zenyatta ran in the Breeder's cup, (Remember it was cupping real bad) that track has gone to crap? Understand that the fractions were fast, but the track seems to make all of the horses all weekend look like the stretch is made of peanut butter. Of all of the stories that could have made headlines, this is not one of them. I truly want a Barbaro like story: Gemologist, undefeated through 5, or Union Rags helping heal wounds that are still open with his loss, Bodemeister with the recent health issues with Bob Baffert, or even the return of theChampion 2 year old Hansen! Nope, a middle pack odds horse wins that is trained by Doug O'Neil, who is famous for "Every 2 week" Running horses. Boring. Hindsight, what "Should have happened"? I thought Bodemeister would Press with Trinniburg, and would tire down the stretch, but he passed him and tried to draw clear! Hansen: Pressed HARD for the lead, once there, he could not dial it back in, I told Kelly Whitney (Before the race) that he needed to be in a stalking position, not a pressing position. That way he could be held up by horses and then work forward. Union Rags was bumped out of the gate, then just flat shut down. Hey guy, you got a ton of horse, give him the confidence he needs, not check twice out of the gate even if you have to go wide. Gemologist ran good, just good, but looked like he wasn't into the track, no excuses. Arguably Dullahan and Went the Day Well (From my favorite Trainer Graham Motion) showed the greatest performance of the whole day to close at that rate on a dead front stretch. Prospective lived up to his trainer and finished bottom 3 and I think may have had his name called once. Come to think of it, Optimizer, Rousing Sermon, Creative Cause, Alpha, El Padrino, Done Talking, Sabrecat, and Liaison, Did they even run? Oh yeah they did, they were the horses that clogged up the middle between the front and Union Rags. So in this race, what makes a good handicapper? To not have a F'ing clue, sit at a bar and yell "Hell, I'll have Another? That's the horse for me! Bartender gimme 'nother, yehaw" I guess I will wait till the Breeders cup to watch the actual "Class" Horses run without the "Also Ran's" PS, still think Hansen is the greatest horse in the field, but the trainer is doing his best to ruin him, or maybe it is the Owner that wants to dye his tail surrounded by uh hum,,,,,ladies, not sure.
Sadly I never placed him among my top 4:(
