I'll Have Another won the 2012 Preakness, the second jewel of the Triple Crown, over pacesetter Bodemeister in a thrilling stretch drive.
Piloted by regular jockey Mario Gutierrez, I'll Have Another raced mid-pack as Bodemeister set an honest pace of :24 and :47 and change. Creative Cause chased Bodemeister along the backstretch, but it looked like the Bob Baffert trainee had the race in-hand under jockey Mike Smith.
I'll Have Another made his signature move at the top of the stretch, his sights on Bodemeister, who had opened up on Creative Cause. Gaining with each stride, I'll Have Another caught Bodemeister and easily passed him at the wire. Creative Cause finished third, eight lengths back of the top two.
I'll Have Another is the first horse since 2008 to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness to shoot for the Triple Crown.
The Belmont Stakes is June 9 at Belmont Park in New York.
