A first out winner last month at Santa Anita, Home Journey
was even more impressive in the $49,400 feature for California breds Friday at
Betfair Hollywood Park.
Facing eight other 2-year-old fillies, the daughter of Good
Journey broke on top, relaxed nicely under jockey Aaron Gryder, then kicked
away at the top of the stretch to prevail by 8 ¼ lengths.
Owned by GGG Stables and Russell J. Sarno and trained by
Mike Puype, Home Journey, the 5-2 favorite, completed the 6 ½ furlongs over
Cushion Track in 1:17.56.
Dismissed at nearly 27-1 when a gate-to-wire winner Oct. 13
over conventional dirt, Home Journey, who is out of the Came Home mare
Goodtobehome, paid $7.40, $4.20 and $2.80. She’s earned $58,800 in two starts.
Well off the pace early after breaking from the inside under
jockey Rafael Bejarano, Akiss Forarose, a 7-2 shot, rallied for second, three-quarters
of a length in front of 5-2 second choice Sacred Delight. A debut winner at
24-1 during the Spring/Summer meet, Akiss Forarose returned $4.40 and $2.60. The
show price on Sacred Delight was $3.
