Hollendorfer Can Establish BHP Stakes Record

Jerry Hollendorfer top story.

Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer can establish an Autumn meet record for most stakes wins by a trainer with a victory in either the $200,000 Soviet Problem Saturday, Dec. 21 or the $200,000 King Glorious Stakes Sunday, Dec. 22.The pair of seven-furlong races for 2-year-olds bred or sired in California – the Soviet Problem is restricted to fillies – will be offered during the final weekend of racing in Hollywood Park history.

Saturday wins by Shared Belief in the Grade I, $751,500 CashCall Futurity and Blueskiesnrainbows in the Grade III, $150,500 Native Diver Stakes gave Hollendorfer six for the meet, tying a record established by Hall of Famer Charlie Whittingham during the 1984 Autumn season.

Whittingham is the all-time leader at the historic venue with 222 stakes successes.

Hollendorfer is scheduled to start Swiss Lake Yodeler in the Soviet Problem and Pray Hard in the King Glorious.

Owned by Four M Stable and Halo Farms, King Glorious gave Hollendorfer his first Futurity win in 1988.

Owned by breeders Larry and Marianne Williams, Swiss Lake Yodeler has won two of three and earned $125,600. The daughter of Swiss Yodeler and the Meadowlake mare Domasco Lake has been idle since an 8-1 upset in the Golden State Juvenile Fillies Nov. 1 at Santa Anita.

A gelded son of Kafwain and the Songandaprayer mare Unbridled Prayer, Pray Hard comes off a 5 ¼ length maiden win Nov. 20 for owner-breeders Debi and Tom Stull’s Tommy Town Thoroughbreds. He’s earned $62,100 in five starts.

Entries for the Soviet Problem will be taken Wednesday, Dec. 18 and entries for the King Glorious will be taken Thursday, Dec. 19.
