Funky
Munky Stable’s Hold That Prospect earned her first stakes victory Saturday
afternoon at Aqueduct Racetrack, leading from start to finish to take the
$65,000 Correction in a 7½-length romp over Heaven’s Voice.
The
5-year-old daughter of Hold That Tiger, who was claimed for $30,000 in March,
was never challenged as she popped out on top and zipped through fractions of
23.58 and 46.73 over the fast inner track. Turning for home under jockey Jorge
Chavez, Hold That Prospect steadily increased her advantage over her four
rivals and hit the wire in 1:11.23 for the six furlongs.
“She’s
got plenty of speed,” said Chavez. “She’s quick from the gate and just decided
to go, so I kept going with her. She took the lead pretty easily so that
was great. It was an easy job for me today.”
Sent
off as the 4-5 favorite, Hold That Prospect returned $3.60 for a $2 win bet as
she earned $39,000 in her second straight stakes appearance. In her last start,
she set the pace but tired to finish fifth in the Garland of Roses here on
December 5.
“I
was confident she had been training very well,” said trainer Gary Gullo. “I
thought it was a good spot for her and she always tries hard.”
Since
being claimed, Hold That Prospect is 5-1-0 with earnings of $158,457. Overall, she
has won 12 of her 26 starts with a bankroll of $293,192.
“Never
in my wildest dreams did I think we would win a stakes with a horse we claimed
for $30,000,” said Richard Munk, managing partner of Funky Munky Stables, which
earned its first stakes victory with the Correction. “I’m speechless.”
Heaven’s
Voice, who stumbled at the start, closed from far back to nose out Fascinatin’
Rhythm for second. What Time It Is and Bright Halo (BRZ) completed the order of
finish.
