Careless Jewel, arguably the second-best 3-year-old filly of 2009 behind Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, has been retired from racing and will be offered for sale Nov. 7 at Fasig-Tipton in November. She will be consigned by John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dales Sales Agency, agent.
Careless Jewel won five straight races last year, capped by an
11-length score in the Alabama Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga, the
lengthiest in the history of the historic race. Careless Jewel also
captured last year’s Delaware Oaks (gr. II) and the Fitz Dixon
Cotillion Stakes (gr. II).
Unraced this year, she retired with five wins from seven starts and
earnings of $1,013,346 for Donna and Vern Dubinsky’s Donver Stable. She
was trained by Josie Carroll.
