I had a lot of respect for Baffert, and Gomez, and a little for Victor too. Baffert is very understanding to let Gomez keep his mount for the Derby. To be honest though, I would be angry at the Victor if he had done that to me, because it could easily have cost me my Derby mount, but retaliating wasn't the smartest move. I do believe that a fine for Gomez and a suspension for Victor was the right decision. -z02
Garrett Gomez should have punched himself in the face for being so stupid. Any fool should know when you have a horse with a nose for the wire keep him in the clear. Unfortunately Garrett Gomez ranks a notch below fool for his ride in the Derby.
Gomez doesn't deserve days, he was almost put into the infield. A fine is... fine!
Bad ride by Gomez, poor sportsmanship and inappropriate behavior by a trainer's wife, bad day for Lookin at Lucky, bad judgment call by the stewards to give Victor "days" and NOT GOMEZ?? Props to Baffert for staying cool and using his head. Props to Victor for doing just as he should have done.
It was nice to know that Baffert, the trainer, did not takes sides in this incident and called it like he saw it. His rider, Gomez, obviously did not follow instructions and knew he was in a bad spot. Garrett Gomez took his frustrating, bad trip out on Espinoza, just to have someone to blame. Come on, Baffert is smarter than that. - C. Crocker
