Tony Matos, agent for jockey Garrett Gomez, said Thursday morning
that he has only been in touch with the rider via short text messages
which he has passed on to the Del Mar stewards. Given the present
circumstances, Matos said it could be ‘quite a while’ before Gomez is
cleared to ride again.
Gomez, whose four Pacific Classic victories are the most for any
rider, has not contacted the stewards. A meeting with them must be held
before Gomez could be cleared to ride again. Gomez took off his
scheduled five mounts on Wednesday and will be off all scheduled for the
next two days, four on Thursday and three on Friday.
