Gomez Remains Off Mounts at Del Mar

Tony Matos, agent for jockey Garrett Gomez, said Thursday morning that he has only been in touch with the rider via short text messages which he has passed on to the Del Mar stewards. Given the present circumstances, Matos said it could be ‘quite a while’ before Gomez is cleared to ride again.

Gomez, whose four Pacific Classic victories are the most for any rider, has not contacted the stewards. A meeting with them must be held before Gomez could be cleared to ride again. Gomez took off his scheduled five mounts on Wednesday and will be off all scheduled for the next two days, four on Thursday and three on Friday.

Stewards still have not heard from Garrett Gomez and the jockey will remain off his mounts until they do. Replacements on the Saturday card for Gomez include: Edwin Maldonado on Londinium in the second race, Martin Garcia on Pure Blush in the third, Alonso Quinonez on Sizzlin Joe in the fourth and Garry Stevens on Appealing in the fifth race Osunitas Stakes. A replacement on Lucayan in the Eddie Read Stakes has yet to be named.
