Global Hunter Stuns 'Read Rivals

Little-known Argentina bred Global Hunter surged past even-money choice Monterey Jazz in upper stretch and held sway for jockey Corey Nakatani to register a 14-1 upset in an eventful $350,000 Eddie Read Stakes (gr. IT) at Del Mar July 25.

Global Hunter, a 6-year-old son of Jade Hunter, scored his first graded stakes win in the United States for trainer A.C. Avila. It was his second victory in 12 North American starts since transferring to Southern California in the spring of 2008.
