General Quarters Tries Turf in Woodford

The South is famous for its religious revivals where people are “born again.” A horse owned and trained by a Norwich native appears to have had the experience last week.


General Quarters had his first workout on Churchill Downs’ grass course Tuesday in preparation for the $500,000 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic on May 1. The 4-year-old was clocked at an impressive 1:05 over five furlongs, trainer/owner Tom McCarthy said.
