Trainer Paddy Gallagher and jockey
Alex Solis, who combined to win the Gamely Stakes last year with Magical
Fantasy, hope for a repeat with General Consensus in the $250,000 Grade I test
for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on turf here May 29.
“I think a mile and an eighth will
be a good distance for her,” said Gallagher Thursday after the 5-year-old mare
worked seven furlongs in 1:26.80 on the lawn here.
General Consensus, in quest of her
first added-money victory, has shown improvement during graded grass stakes at
Santa Anita, finishing third behind Tuscan Evening in the Santa Ana Handicap
and second by a length behind Tuscan Evening in their last starts in the Santa
Barbara Handicap.
Tuscan Evening, named Horse of the
Meet at Santa Anita after four straight graded stakes victories on turf, seeks
her fifth straight triumph and first in a Grade 1 in the Gamely for trainer
Jerry Hollendorfer and jockey Rafael Bejarano.
Other probable starters include Cat
by the Tale (Martin Garcia), Gotta Have Her (Tyler Baze), Medaglia d’Amour
(Joel Rosario), Princess Haya (Joe Talamo) and Well Monied (Mike Smith).
Also nominated are Carribean Sunset,
Éclair de Lune, Forever Together, Patti’s Regal Song, Rainbow View, Restless
Soul, Sweet and Flawless, Third Dawn and Turning
Top.
