“Here’s your headline,” clocker Toby Turrell said. “If you liked last week’s work, you’re going to love this one.”
Santa Anita Handicap and Hollywood Gold Cup winner Game On Dude
officially worked six furlongs in 1:12.40 Wednesday morning in
preparation for the $1 million Grade I TVG Pacific Classic on Sunday,
August 25. But the six-furlong mark was the point at which, “the fun
begins,” Turrell continued.
Subsequent galloping out clockings at furlong points were 1:24.60 for
seven furlongs, 1:37.60 which is impressive for that distance, Turrell
said. Trainer Bob Baffert had Game On Dude, who worked alone under
jockey Martin Garcia, galloping out 1 1/8 miles in 1:51.00.
“He went nice, it was a good long work,” Baffert said. “I liked the
way he went over the track.” Game on Dude broke off at the five-eighths
pole and galloped out to the same point.
A victory in the Pacific Classic would make Game On Dude only the
second horse to win the three major stakes at Santa Anita, Hollywood
Park and Del Mar in the same year. Lava Man achieved the feat in 2006.
