Grade III Lecomte Stakes Jan. 23, breezed a half-mile in 49.60 Monday morning
at Fair Grounds in preparation for Saturday’s Grade II Risen Star Stakes
– the final major designed prep for the Grade II $750,000 Louisiana Derby
March 27.
Letsgetitonmon, a son of Maria’s Mon, is
one of the more prominent sophomores conditioned by Eclipse Award-winning
trainer Steve Asmussen at Fair Grounds this season.
Friesan Fire Gets Monday Breeze for
Saturday’s Mineshaft Handicap
Vinery Stables and Fox Hill Farm’s Friesan
Fire, winner of last year’s Louisiana Derby and this year’s Louisiana
Handicap Jan. 23, breezed four furlongs in 50.20 Monday morning in advance of
this Saturday’s Grade III Mineshaft Handicap as the final major designed
prep for the Grade II New Orleans Handicap on March 27.
Friesan Fire, who also won last year’s
Grade III Lecomte and Grade III Risen Star locally before his Louisiana Derby
score while trained by the now-retired Larry Jones, is under the care of
Eclipse Award-winning trainer Steve Asmussen this season.
Silverfoot, Baltimore Bob, Dubious
Miss Breeze Monday for Saturday’s Fair Grounds Handicap
Chrysalis Stables’ Silverfoot and
Robert Gerzak and Kaygar Stable’s Baltimore Bob both breezed half-mile
moves in 52.60 and 53.40, respectively, Monday morning in preparation for Saturday’s
Grade III Fair Grounds Handicap, to be contested over the Stall-Wilson
turf course.
Silverfoot, trained by Dallas Stewart,
and Baltimore Bob, conditioned by Helen Pitts-Blasi, were preparing for
Saturday’s middle leg of Fair Grounds’ troika of major turf stakes that
concludes with the Grade II Mervin H. Muniz Jr. Memorial Handicap March 27.
Silverfoot won Arlington’s
Grade III Stars and Stripes Handicap two years ago but hasn’t started since
finishing sixth in last summer’s renewal on Sept. 7, while Baltimore Bob most
recently finished third in Sam Houston’s Grade III John B. Connally Handicap
Jan. 30.
Also breezing prior to participation in
Saturday’s Fair Grounds Handicap was David Holloway Racing’s Dubious Miss,
who breezed five furlongs in 1:03 Monday morning for trainer Paul McGee.
