Former Fair Grounds trainer Dianne Carpenter, who saddled Kingpost to a runner-up finish behind Risen Star in the Belmont Stakes in 1988, died of cancer on May 4 in Biloxi, Miss., at age 68.
Carpenter, who owned many of the horses she trained through her Sundance Stable, won the New Orleans Handicap and Fair Grounds Classic with Sun Catcher in 1981. She had a stable at the Fair Grounds in the late 1970s through the 1980s.
