Following Banned’s Saga on Twitter

Owned by Glen Hill Farm, trained by Tom Proctor, and ridden by Garrett Gomez, Banned is one of the best young turf horses in the nation. By the luck of the draw, I have been there in person for five out of his last seven races, which is something I cannot say about any other horse. In two of those races Banned was an impressive winner of a graded stakes, and in each of the other three, he certainly made his presence felt. I have developed a bond with Banned.

Today, and since Thursday, Banned is in a fight for his life.

My thoughts and prayers are obviously with Banned, and thankfully I have been able to closely keep track to his hour-to-hour status thanks to Twitter. Well, thanks to Twitter, and more specifically to Craig Bernick. The President of Glen Hill Farm, Bernick has been kind enough to constantly update his Twitter status to keep us informed of what is going on with Banned.

I will let Mr. Bernick's last eleven tweets tell the story...

@Brian Zipse, I very much agree!! Losing Banned was a tough blow for American turf racing. Gio Ponti's pretty much carried the banner for American turf racing almost single handed for the past 2 or 3 seasons. But I felt like Banned may have been the one young American turf prospect that could've been capable of taking that banner off of Gio Ponti's shoulders, and carrying it forward himself. A tragic loss to a talented horse, indeed.
So sad this ended this way ... Rest in Peace, Banned.
Go Texas, yes ,I heard the same thing ,from a Vet. That the seasamoid was once a toe.
RIP banned
Maybe somebody out there knows the answer to this...I seem to recall reading that the sesamoid bones are actually the remnants of toes from back when the early ancesters of the modern horse had three toes on each foot. The middle one became the hoof that we know, shoe and clean :)) now.
Latest tweet on Banned ... "I count maybe 17 screws in this picture. Banned did well through the night, hopefully we get lucky." http://pic.twitter.com/EQExtlyz
Following now...thanks!
I'm praying for Banned. :(
So happy to hear the good news that Banned came out of surgery O.K. Sending best wishes for recovery to a very special horse, one of my favs! Get well soon pretty boy!
