Preston Stables’ Flat Out blew out three furlongs in 37.13 on the
main track Friday, one day in advance of a start in the Grade 1, $750,000
Woodward.
“He was galloping and we wanted to blow him out a bit, and the clockers
caught him and timed it,” said trainer Charles “Scooter” Dickey. “It turned out
well, and he cooled out fine. It wasn’t too much.”
Winner of the Grade 2 Suburban Handicap, Flat Out enters the Woodward off
a second in the Grade 1 Whitney Invitational Handicap on August 6. He was made
the 5-2 morning-line second choice in the Woodward behind the filly Havre de
Grace, who was tabbed as the 8-5 favorite.
