Columbine Stable’s Five Star Fun
was no disappointment to the fans who backed her down to
9-to-10 favoritism at Fair Grounds Thursday, winning the featured
$32,000 fifth race at about 5 1/2 furlongs over the Stall-Wilson turf
course by a length with a front-running score under jockey
Shane Sellers.
Trained by
Al Stall Jr., Five Star
Fun was away alertly and quickly in command, set early fractions of
22.48 and 46.87 before negotiating the final distance in 1:05.37,
increased her career earnings to $64,860 with her third
win in five lifetime starts and returned mutuels of $3.80, $2.40 and
$2.20.
Keith Plaisance’s
Palazzo Babe was clearly second best, paying $4.40 and $3.40 to place while finishing three lengths to the good of H & H Ranch’s
Badness, who returned $4.20 to show.
Racing resumes Friday at Fair Grounds with the third
Starlight Racing session of the current season, offering a special nine-race program beginning at
5 p.m.
