The uneasy marriage between racetracks and casinos reached a new low
this week when it was reported by the Des Moines Register that Harrah's
Entertainment is willing to pay the state of Iowa $49 million if
lawmakers drop the requirement that the company conduct live greyhound
racing at its racino in Council Bluffs.
