Lee Lewis’ 3-year-old filly Live Lively
will be among the favorites for
next Saturday’s $250,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) at 1 1/8 miles on
Florida Derby Day and is scheduled for a final workout Sunday morning at
Palm Meadows, according to trainer Mark Hennig.
“She’s doing fine and we just have to get this one more work in,
probably early before it gets hot like it is today,” said Hennig, who
was busy inspecting 2-year-old sales prospects at Palm Meadows where the
Fasig-Tipton Florida 2-year-old sales will be held Monday.
A daughter of Medaglia d’Oro purchased for $160,000 Keeneland September
yearling sales, Live Lively shipped into Palm Meadows for the winter
after a third-place debut at Belmont Park in late June and a maiden
score by three-quarters of a length at Aqueduct on Nov. 23.
In two starts at Gulfstream, Live Lively romped home an 11 ¼ lengths
allowance winner at seven-furlongs on New Year’s Day and stepped up
again for a wire-to-wire score over heavy favorite Dreaming of Julia in
the $250,000 Davona Dale Stakes (G2) going 1 1/16 miles last out on Feb.
In addition to Live Lively, the probable field for the Gulfstream Oaks
is expected to include Spendthift Farm’s Cure the Moon, Stonestreet
Stable’s Dreaming of Julia, Juddmonte Farms’ Emollient, Catalyst Stable
and partners’ Kimberly Jean, Chiefswood Stable’s Original Script and
West Point Thoroughbreds’ Toasting.
