victory over Curvy Cat as the 13-10 favorite in the Cat’s Cradle

Worse than third only twice in 10 starts, Warren’s Veneda, who has won five times, has banked $282,064.
Hall of Fame trainer Ron McAnally will be represented by Charm the Maker, a 4-year-old Empire Maker filly out of the Giant’s
Causeway mare Charm the Giant he owns and bred with wife Debbie.
Charm the Maker, whose only victory at Betfair Hollywood Park came in the 2011 Sharp Cat Stakes, has three wins in 15
starts and a bankroll of $337,990.
A victory by Charm the Maker would be a record-tying fifth in the Bayakoa for McAnally. He won with Happy Guess (1981),
Paseana (1991) and Brought to Mind (1992) when the race was called the Silver Belles Handicap and again in 1996 with Listening.
The champion older filly or mare of 1989 and 1990 for McAnally, Bayakoa is a member of racing’s Hall of Fame and finished
her career with 21 victories and earnings of more than $2.81 million.
John Shirreffs holds the Bayakoa record. He won his fifth in 2009 with Zardana.
Champagneandcaviar will try a surface switch after posting a 57-1 shocker Oct. 11 on the Santa Anita turf in her first
race for trainer Gary Mandella.
The win was the fourth in 16 starts for the 4-year-old Van Nistelrooy filly and pushed her earnings to $123,471. Out of
the Carson City mare Dance With Carson, Champagneandcaviar is owned by Fleur De Lis Stable, LLC.
Spellbound will make her first appearance since finishing fourth in the Grade I Santa Anita Oaks April 6.
