Ferlax Shines After All Too Hard's Defection

Ferlax had been unbeaten in three starts but the Guineas - with All Too Hard a long odds-on favourite - was a quantum leap from wins at Echuca, Benalla and Sale.

All Too Hard's race morning scratching boosted Conlan's confidence but it was Tuesday's gallop that first raised his hopes.

"It was a great gallop. Afterwards we thought 'geez we might as well have a crack at it," Conlan said.

A firmer into $15 after All Too Hard came out, Ferlax settled third the fence before dashing through at the 300m, holding off luckless filly You're So Good.

Ferlax was ridden by Stephen Baster, who has made a spectacular return to Melbourne racing after being controversially kicked out of Singapore.
